From Field to Finish: Behind Fine Feathers Design

Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Borders, Fine Feathers Design was born from a love of country life, a passion for beautiful things, and a commitment to creating something truly unique.

Every brooch, hat pin and accessory I make has a story - and it starts long before I sit down at the workbench.

Ethically Sourced, Naturally Beautiful

Our materials come straight from the countryside around us. All the feathers we use are sustainably sourced from local game birds such as pheasants, woodcock, ducks, peacocks, and guineafowl. These feathers are ethically collected as part of traditional countryside management - no birds are harmed for the sake of fashion.

Each one is carefully handpicked for its shape, colour and character — no two are ever quite the same, and that’s exactly what makes our work so special.

Handcrafted in the Scottish Borders

From our small workshop in Jedburgh, we handcraft every piece with care. There’s no mass production, no short-cuts — just thoughtful, skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail.

We layer, trim, bind, and finish each piece individually, ensuring that every pin or brooch that leaves our studio is something to be proud of. Whether it’s a statement hatpin for the races, a delicate brooch for a wedding outfit, or a one-of-a-kind accessory for everyday wear, we treat every order with the same care and attention.

Sustainable Style That Lasts

We believe in quality over quantity, and in making products that last. Our packaging is made from recycled materials and we offer customisable options so that your accessory perfectly matches your tweed, tartan or outfit colour palette.

Our designs are made to be worn, loved and passed down — not thrown away. We’re passionate about slow fashion, sustainability, and preserving traditional rural craft in a modern, wearable way.

From Gifting to Big Days Out

Our customers come to us for all kinds of reasons - from weddings and race days to special birthdays and country events. Some just want to treat themselves to something handmade and meaningful.

Whatever the occasion, we’re here to help you find (or create) a piece that feels personal and just right.
